What is a
Co-Missionary? Who are they?
In
his message for World Mission Day 2001, Pope
John Paul II reminded us that “every Christian
must be a missionary.” He said, “Every
Christian must see Jesus’ face in the poor,
the suffering, and those searching for the
meaning of life and proclaim the savior to
them... The proclamation of Christ is not
something reserved for a few.”
Our missionaries rely on your prayers, your
sacrifices, and your alms. Please become a
Basilian co-missionary today. |

We are all called to be missionaries,
even if we never leave home. The generous supporters of the Basilian
Fathers Missions are cooperators, co-missionaries in our work by their prayers and their gifts.
As a co-missionary, your prayers touch the poor and displaced in the missions through the hands of our priests. Your prayers uplift and support our priests, our seminarians, and the native vocations we encourage. Your alms feed, clothe, shelter and educate those we serve and to whom we bring the Good News in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Pope Pius XI declared St. Therese of the Child Jesus “Principal Patroness of all Missionaries, and of all missions existing throughout the world, the equal of St. Francis Xavier.” What a beautiful paradox that this Little Flower of Lisieux, who never left her convent, should be set beside the fiery patron of the missions as his equal in zeal for the missions. Therese shared in the apostolic labors of the missionaries with her prayers and sacrifices. Not satisfied with sharing their work in this life alone, she promised to support them with roses (favors) from Heaven.
In the words of this saintly doctor of the church, you too can say “I shall be very happy to work with you for the salvation of souls.” May you be filled with the same missionary zeal, and remember St. Therese’s words, “There is but one thing to be done here below, to love Jesus and to save souls.”
Please pray for our missionaries to give them courage, to give their people an increase of faith, and to alleviate the problems caused by violence, poverty, injustice, and despair, and to open generous hearts in support of our missions.
Please consider supporting our missions with your alms, as well.
