Saint Joseph Mission Center
St. Joseph Mission Center in Sugar Land, Texas serves as the hub of Basilian mission activities.
Missionaries “come home” from time to time throughout the year for rest and relaxation or
medical and dental appointments and during the summer months to go on preaching tours
throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Rev. John L. Boscoe, Mission Procurator, affectionately known as
Padre Juan, in addition to keeping a busy schedule preaching for the missions, also tends to the needs of those Basilians who are ill and on extended recovery and to the guests of the Basilian Fathers
Missions.
St. Joseph’s is the center for all the mission fundraising efforts.
Al Ewer, a dedicated layman, is in charge of many of the daily business functions of the center. Other lay volunteers assist with the work here. From here, donation appeals are made and the newsletter and other mission publications are sent out. Donations of religious articles, books, clothing and other items are stored here until they are taken by the missionaries to their apostolic areas.
The beautiful chapel is the heart of the mission center. It is the place from which many prayers for the missions and their benefactors arise and Mass is celebrated on weekdays here.
St. Joseph’s Center is surrounded by a beautiful garden area where, because of the mild climate, flowers bloom for most of the year. Visitors may pause to pray or follow the way of the cross here.
